UKIP calls on TTIP documents to be released fully to public, not just MEPs
On 2 December, the College of Commissioners approved access for MEPs to all categories of the controversial Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Consolidated texts will also be available which reflect the US position. Restrictions do apply however with the MEP only being allowed to read the text in a secure reading room and that the confidential nature of the information must not be compromised so as “to protect EU interests”.
William Dartmouth MEP and UKIP Trade Spokesman said: "It is something that all MEPs will e able to view this document and finally see what the full extent of the damage will be, but it is not enough . For those interested in a fair legal system for small businesses, the protection of the NHS and consumer rights it is shocking that this information is still not to be fully in the public domain.
“This sham show of transparency is nothing more than an attempt to deflect attention away from the secretive nature of these negotiations. Let’s release the entire document so the people of Europe can decide if they want this agreement, not unelected and unremovable bureaucrats.”
