#Greece: MEPs to debate state of play on Greek assistance programme
MEPs will debate the state of the negotiations on the Greek economic adjustment programme on Tuesday (10 May) at 15h with Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici. MEPs recently visited Greece on a fact-finding mission for Parliament's Financial Assistance Working Group.
Greece and its creditors are trying to finalize the first review of its current (third) economic adjustment programme (maximum €86 billion for 2015-2018). They have to agree on the reforms needed in order for funds to be released.
Background on the Financial Assistance Working Group
On 21 January 2016, the European Parliament Conference of Presidents (EP President and political group leaders) approved a series of measures to improve parliamentary scrutiny of financial assistance programmes at EU level. These measures notably included creating a Financial Assistance Working Group (FAWG) within Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, as well as fact-finding missions in programme countries.
