"#Brexit Ballet” - musical art at the Felfoldi Music Festival

What do Europeans think about Brexit?   Hungarian Businessman and film/music producer Joseph Felfoldi has expressed some of the mixed feelings in a fusion of song and choreography titled ''Brexit Ballet''. A Hungarian music composition which was inspired by a contemporary political situation. However the music video was uploaded to the Youtube a month ago, it already gained more than 600.000 views. According to statistics, more than half of the views came from English speaking countries, but it also rapidly circulates all over the European Union.

Based on Youtube comments and email feedbacks, Europeans pay particular attention to the possible outcomes and influences of Brexit. Many online newspapers published articles about Mr. Felfoldi’s “Brexit Ballet”, including the Budapest Business Journal and the Daily News Hungary, not to mention the Budapest Zeitung which devoted two pages to the Hungarian musician’s song.

The composer of the song, Joseph Felfoldi is a Hungarian businessman and founder of a candy company which exports across Europe and the world, with the UK representing one of the strongest partners. He also writes and produces songs and poetry. He lost one of his eyes in an accident when he was 14 years old. He got over the accident soon. At this time, he got his first guitar from his elder sister. His affinity and commitment to music, literature and arts has accompanied his every waking moment since.

Mr. Felfoldi still actively composes music and writes verses, operates a talent development foundation and due to his social sensitivity, he supports those in need with continuous donations.

The song is inspired by the English ballad tradition, with the lyrics identifying themes that Europeans associate with Britain: a misty island, at once nearby and distant; a proud seafaring nation with a long history; and a complex destiny intertwined with that of Europe itself.

The choreography is arranged by Zsuzsa Laczó of the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen, with dancer Kitti Gall playing Britannia on a bare stage. The narrative evokes a combination of admiration, beauty, trauma, and sorrow.
