EU and civil society from #SouthernMediterranean to discuss most pressing regional challenges
Representatives from the European Union and more than 160 participants from NGOs, trade unions, business associations, think tanks from the EU Southern Neighbourhood gathered in Brussels (2-3 December) at the 2ndMajalat Civil Society Forum.
The Forum - which is jointly organized by the Commission and the Majalat initiative, an EU-funded consortium of six civil society organisations - will provide an important space to foster exchanges with the civil society.
It will spark discussions on the most pressing challenges in the Mediterranean region including how to strengthen the role of the regional civil society in tackling critical social, political, economic and environmental challenges. The results of the discussions will feed into structured dialogues that the European Union holds with civil society actors from the region. More information on the Forum is available here. Upon the conclusion of the two-day event, Neighbourhood and Enlargement Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi will meet representatives of civil society organisations participating at the Forum on Wednesday, 4th December. Images will be available on EbS.
