Rovshan Tamrazov, the Maddox Group’s owner, responded to an October 16 article by Oliver Zihlmann and Sylvain Besson published in Tribune de Geneve (https://www.tdg.ch/meurtre-a-malte-lenquete-remonte-la-piste-du-petrole-genevois-565477280777). The journalists had conducted an investigation into Tamrazov’s economic links with the individuals and companies allegedly involved in the tragic death of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

On 16 October 2017, she was murdered in a car bomb near her home, which drew widespread condemnation at home and abroad. The attack was followed by an arrest of three people in December 2017. On November 20, 2019, Yorgen Fenech, the owner of the Dubai-based company 17 Black, was arrested aboard his yacht in connection with the murder of the journalist.

Mr. Tamrazov made an official statement about the Swiss journalists’ article. “I dismiss any accusations of my involvement in the notorious events. Moreover, I have never come into direct or indirect contacts with the above mentioned individuals; nor have I made any payments relating to Malta”, he said. As the businessman put it, despite treating the journalists and their work with great respect, he would advise them against jumping to conclusions. “My involvement in the dealings with the UAE-based company in question was of straightforward and transparent nature”, he stressed.
