Sassoli: We were right to trust Europe - #Eurogroup proposals go in the right direction

Statement by European Parliament President David Sassoli (pictured) on Eurogroup proposals: "We were right to trust Europe. The Eurogroup proposals go in the right direction, with the transformation of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) into a 'save Europe' from COVID-19 mechanism.

"It will be available to use immediately to increase the capacity of our health-care facilities, hospitals and research centres. To save the lives of European citizens.

“We welcome the agreement of the Eurogroup on an EU wide unemployment reinsurance scheme (SURE) and the strengthening of the European Investment Bank (EIB). The indication from the Eurogroup to the EU Council to establish a fund for reconstruction to be financed by innovative tools, is also welcome. In the battle to rebuild Europe, the European Parliament will always play its role in defence of European citizens."
