MEPs to debate EU corruption with Commissioner Malmström

7004bf929f50f09e249f0f68971440d0824c0b27The Civil Liberties Committee will debate the first ever EU Anti-Corruption Report with Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on Wednesday, 12 February, at 15h. The report, presented on 3 February, explains what anti-corruption measures are in place in each EU member state, which ones are working well, what could be improved and how.

Commenting on to the Anti-Corruption Report, Civil Liberties Committee chair Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, Spain), said last week: "Corruption is not found in just some member states. On the contrary, it affects each and every one of them. It is disheartening to have to confirm that political corruption is a key cause of concern for EU citizens. At a time of appalling economic and financial crisis, recovering money siphoned off from the legal economy by fraudsters is of utmost importance. This money is sorely needed to foster growth and jobs."
