European Parliament this week (4-8 May 2015): Undeclared work, Crimea, digital single market

20150401PHT40052_originalMEPs vote this week (4-8 May) on proposals to clamp down on undeclared work and a resolution on the military situation in the Black Sea. The tax rulings committee debates the recently launched investigations on state aid being given by a number of member states, while the industry, research and energy committee discusses the EU's strategy for a digital single market.

The tax rulings committee holds a debate on Tuesday (5 May) with Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and tax professionals from the 'big four' accountancy firms after the European Commission  launched investigations into state aid given by Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium.

On Thursday (7 May) the legal affairs committee votes on a draft law that would give shareholders "a say on pay" of directors of listed companies, by enabling them to approve or reject remuneration policies every three years.

The international trade committee debates new ideas for the investor-state dispute settlement in the Transatlantic Investment Partnership (TTIP) deal with Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on Wednesday (6 May).

The constitutional affairs and economic committees holds a hearing on Tuesday with experts on the role of the Eurogroup and the institutional aspects of the new rules on economic governance.

The economic committee debates the economic situation in France with French Finance Minister Michel Sapin on Thursday. They might also discuss France's deficit and the two years’ leeway granted by the European Commission to bring the level of public spending in line with the EU Stability and Growth Pact criteria.

The employment committee votes on Thursday on a draft report to strengthen European cooperation in order to prevent undeclared work.

A legislative amendment to the Dublin Regulation will be voted on by the civil liberties committee on Wednesday. Its objective is to clarify which EU country should process asylum applications for unaccompanied minors.

One year after Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, the foreign affairs committee votes on Monday on a resolution on the strategic military situation in the Black Sea.

On Wednesday the industry, research and energy committee holds an exchange of view on the EU's strategy for digital single market  with Andrus Ansip, who is the commissioner responsible for the issue
