Commissioner Serafin meets with mayors of European capital cities in Warsaw
Commissioner Piotr Serafin (pictured) has participated in a high-level policy dialogue on how direct financing can enhance the security and resilience of the European cities. The event was organized by the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski.
Each year, EU Capital City Mayors and the European Commission convene to discuss pressing issues affecting cities across Europe. With 75% of the EU population living in urban areas, cities serve as major economic drivers, generating 85% of the Union's gross domestiv product, and accounting for up to 75% of its employment.
This year's debate focused on the future of the Cohesion Policy, and the preparedness and readiness for emergencies. The event provides a platform between the European Commission and the capital cities for the discussions on the next Multiannual Financial Framework, for which the commissioner held conversations during the event. This vital collaboration between the Commission and local and regional authorities, ensures that regional needs are effectively addressed.
At the conclusion of the event, participants adopted a declaration highlighting the key needs of cities to enhance security, resilience, and preparedness for future crises. You will find more information at the Committee of the Regions' website.
