On Thursday night (9 November), a police officer was stabbed in the neck in Schaerbeek, a north Brussels municipality. Another was also injured, Belgian media reported.

Belgia's federal prosecutors who deal with cases of terrorism or organised crime were not available immediately to confirm media reports about a possible terror attack.

Belgian newspaper Le Soir reported that the attacker had earlier threatened a police station before being taken to hospital for a mental evaluation.

"Our police officers risk there lives every day to protect our citizens," Alexander De Croo, the Belgian Prime Minister, tweeted that today's drama was proof of this once more.
