Two people were killed and one was still missing when their car was swept away by flash floods that struck the Greek island of Crete.

According to the Greek fire brigade, the man was rescued from the vehicle that had been washed into seawater by torrential rain in Agia Pelagia, the region of Heraklion.

Images showed cars partially or fully submerged in the muddy waters of Agia Pelagia.

Officials from the fire brigade said that they have received hundreds of calls asking them to pump water out of the flooded buildings or bring people to safety.
