Barbarism and Anti-Semitism: A Threat to Civilisation

Brussels, Belgium – The events of October 7 last year should have shocked the world. A barbaric attack on Jews, orchestrated by Hamas terrorists and other Islamist militants, resulted in one of the worst acts of Jew-killing since the Holocaust.

In the aftermath of that dark day, the world has been witness to a disturbing trend: equivocations, denials, and even outright apologies for the unprecedented violence committed by Hamas militants. As Israel has taken necessary measures to dismantle the terrorist networks responsible for the brutal murder, mutilation, and rape of Jews, a disturbing coalition of politicians, NGOs, and identity groups has emerged to attack the Jewish state. These groups have hurled accusations, spread libels, and imposed double standards in an effort to delegitimize Israel's right to defend itself.

Perhaps most alarming is the resurgence of anti-Semitism across Western societies. Jewish communities have faced heightened violence, while protests glorifying Hamas have become commonplace in many capitals. In everyday conversations about Israel and the Jewish people, anti-Semitism has disturbingly become more casual and accepted.

MCC Brussels firmly believes that this resurgence of anti-Semitism and the coordinated attacks on Israel's legitimacy pose one of the gravest threats to European civilisation.
