The Ukrainian army charged Russia on Sunday (6 November) with the massive destruction of civilian vessels moored along the banks of Dnipro River in Kherson's occupied southern region. Kyiv's forces want to take them.

Russian troops have been under pressure from the Ukrainians on the western bank Dnipro, which runs through Ukraine. This has fueled speculation that Moscow's troops may be retreating to the other side.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian General Staff stated that fuel from the damaged vessels had leaked into river's Delta. He also accused Moscow of appropriating engines and other equipment.

The Ukrainian General Staff did not provide any explanations for Moscow's actions. The destruction of civilian vessels would stop Ukrainian forces from using them if they choose to cross to the east in the event Russian withdrawal.

This statement was part of the pattern of increasing tension in the region, where Russian-installed occupation officials stated on Sunday that sabotage had shut off power and water supply to the city of Kherson as well as a number other settlements.
