Kyiv residents snap up new stamp celebrating Crimean bridge blast
Kyiv residents have bought a new stamp to commemorate the destruction of a bridge connecting Russia and Crimea. This was a blow to Vladimir Putin's prestige.
"There's not a corner in the world that hasn't asked (us) to send them (the stamp)," Liudmyla Samoilova said, one of many people who waited to buy the stamps at Kyiv’s post office.
She said, "We've sent it to America, Australia," as she attached the stamps to the envelopes. "People are excited about these happenings and they wait for the good news."
The bridge, a prominent project under Putin's leadership and a crucial supply route for Russian troops in Ukraine, was partially destroyed by an explosion last month. Russia claimed Ukraine was responsible, but Kyiv has not denied responsibility.
The stamps depict a man standing with a woman on a broken bridge, echoing the famous scene in Titanic, as smoke billows behind them.
Olena Tumanska is originally from Crimea and said that she hoped for the bridge's destruction.
Tumanska said: "I hope justice prevails soon," and added that she would like to visit Crimea next year.
Ukraine claims it will one-day retake Crimea. It was occupied in 2014 by Russian forces.
The April stamp was issued by the Ukrainian national postal service. It depicted a crude gesture made by a Ukrainian soldier at a Russian warship. After the Russian flagship's Black Sea fleet was destroyed and sank, it was put on sale.
