Germany's Scholz promises Ukraine further support in call with Zelenskiy
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Ukrainian president, was assured by Olaf Scholz (pictured), German Chancellor, in a Monday (1 November) phone call that Berlin would continue to support Kyiv's political, financial and military needs. According to a government statement, Scholz made the assurance.
Scholz condemned Russian bombardment of civilian infrastructure, and called Russian claims that Ukraine was developing a "dirty bomb" baseless. Dirty bombs contain nuclear material.
"The chancellor agreed to the Ukrainian president that an independent investigation conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (Ukraine) would clear any doubts about this topic," read the government statement.
