Russian military organization Wagner said on Tuesday (10 January) that its forces had taken control over the Soledar, an eastern Ukrainian mining town. However, fighting continues, Russian news agencies reported.

Ukraine stated earlier that its forces had resisted a Russian attack.

"Wagner units seized control of the entire Soledar territory. A cauldron has been constructed in the center of the city where urban fighting is taking place," Yevgeny Privozhin, Wagner head, stated in a statement that was cited by Russian agencies.

He said: "The number of prisoner will be announced tomorrow", but did not give any further details.
