Young people from across Europe are taking centre stage in discussing our democracy and the future of European cities through two Youth Policy Dialogues. In Espoo, Finland, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy Henna Virkkunen is hosting her first Youth Policy Dialogue at Aalto University, focusing on social media's role in democracy. In Warsaw, Poland, Startups, Research, and Innovation Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva (pictured) is engaging with young Europeans in discussions on urban transformation.

The dialogue in Espoo focuses on two key topics: young people and social media and the role of social media in the democratic process. Executive Vice-President Virkkunen will answer questions on the opportunities and challenges posed by social media, from the impact on education and democracy, to issues of online safety and transparency.

Meanwhile, in Warsaw, the discussions with Commissioner Zaharieva will explore how the EU can support more sustainable, innovative, and inclusive cities that meet the needs of future generations.

Both events highlight the Commission's commitment to integrating young voices into EU policymaking, as outlined in President von der Leyen's Political Guidelines for 2024-2029. Youth Policy Dialogues empower young people to express their views on EU policy initiatives by providing a space for meaningful interaction with Commissioners.
