On 29 October, Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson (pictured) participated in the virtual European Migration Network annual conference ‘Towards effective asylum and migration management – Innovative approaches and their implementation in practice', organized together with the German EU Presidency of the Council. The commissioner delivered the keynote speech focusing on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum.

The conference was an opportunity to discuss practical strategies for effective asylum and migration management, including: using information in the context of migration, the digital transformation of the asylum procedure, and the humanitarian admission of people seeking protection.

It also provided an opportunity to exchange views and experiences regarding the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on migration management. The European Migration Network is a network consisting of the Commission and national contact points in each member state, and in Norway. The conference will bring together representatives from EU member states, the Commission, international organizations, civil society and the research community.
