UK defence minister sets out further military aid package to Ukraine

Britain’s Defence Minister Ben Wallace announced Monday (16 January) that further military support was being provided for Ukraine. He confirmed the supply of 14 Challenger 2 tanks as well as a variety of other details.

"Today, I am able to announce the largest package of combat power that has been announced to speed up Ukrainian success." Wallace stated that this included a squadron Challenger 2 tanks equipped with armoured recovery vehicles and repair vehicles.

Also included in the package:

- Eight AS90 guns

- Additional armoured and protected vehicles, including Bulldog personnel carriers.

- A manoeuvre support package that includes minefield breaching, bridging capabilities and more

- There are many more "uncrewed air systems" that can support artillery

- Additional 100,000 artillery rounds

- Many more advanced missiles, including Starstreak air defense and medium range air defense missiles, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), and Starstreak missile defense

- A set of spares for up to 100 Ukrainian tanks or infantry fighting vehicles.
