Antonio TajaniEuropean Parliament Vice President Antonio Tajani (pictured), responsible for security and inter-religious dialogue Vice President of the European People's Party (EPP) was in Varna, Bulgaria, on 29-30 August for a two-day meeting with the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. During these two days Borisov and Tajani discussed recent developments in international politics, in particular concerning migration, security and defense, youth unemployment and cooperation in key sectors such as tourism and SMEs.

"Today, the world is facing the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War," said Tajani. "50,000 immigrants have arrived in Greece in the month of July, 35,000 have reached Hungary in the same period. This means that the Western Balkans, Italy and Greece are the member states most exposed to migratory flows. "

According to Tajani the "emergency is global, and as such, it needs to be addressed together by the EU, the UN, Russia and the United States. The problem is not only Africa and the Middle East but also the East of the EU: Ukraine and the Balkans.

"The European response on migration must be strong and united. The solutions that have been put forward so far are too weak because there is still a lot of egoism by too many member states. Solidarity means also sharing responsibility."
