Nikos Chountis (pictured), MEP from the Popular Unity Party of Greece, former alternate Foreign Minister responsible for European affairs, has announced the launch of an initiative with the aim to coordinate the left and other democratic political forces and movements in the European and other European parliaments, international personalities as well, against the revival of neo-fascism, neo-Nazism and racial discrimination in Europe.
He stated that Europe must take serious steps to protect the young generation, especially in the crisis' environment, from the negative influence of neo-fascism and neo-Nazism and racial intolerance, to protect national minorities groups, refugees and all the people from the threat of violence and attacks from neo-fascist and radical nationalist gangs being active in all around Europe, especially in Eastern parts of it and particularly in Ukraine.
Nikos Chountis also will coordinate certain activities of the Greek authorities, political parties and other democratic forces in Europe for taking care regarding negative tendencies in Ukraine affecting the Greek community there. He announced an idea of arranging a visit of a parliamentary delegation to Odessa and other areas in the nearest future to meet representatives of the Greek minority there and discuss their situation in an open dialogue which will also include local authorities.
