Statement by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on the death of #JeanneMoreau
"It was with great emotion and with great sadness that I learned of the death of Jeanne Moreau, an immense lady of French and European cinema whose talent and beauty touched so many hearts. European by her origins, her artistic choices have led her to collaborate with the greatest European artists of her generation.
"Her work has always reflected the values of our Union, like the love of freedom. As an actress, she has given French and European cinema a unique role and place throughout the world, and has marked generations of moviegoers by interpreting unforgettable and timeless characters, such as that of Catherine in Jules and Jim by François Truffaut.
"Her charism extended well beyond the European continent. It inspired actors and creators around the world. Jeanne Moreau has marked European culture with her talent and her art will continue to charm and enchant all audiences long after her passing away. All my thoughts go to her family and the world of the arts."
