Debate and vote on #UrsulaVonDerLeyen nomination to take place today

If elected by MEPs today (16 July) at 18h, Ursula von der Leyen will be set to become President of the European Commission for the next five years.
At 9h, she will take the floor in Parliament’s plenarysession in Strasbourg to outline her vision and plans as Commission President, followed by a debate with MEPs until 12h30.

Von der Leyen needs the backing of an absolute majority (50% plus one) of Parliament’s component members.Parliament currently comprises 747 MEPs as per the official notifications received by member state authorities, so the expected necessary threshold is 374 votes. President Sassoli will formally announce the requisite number before voting starts. The vote will be held by secret paper ballot.
