Knokke Art Fair : tradition and contemporary display

Knokke Art Fair continues an almost 50-year-old tradition with respect for the past and an eye for what has come to the fore today. Figuration endures and even seems reborn. Painting, graphics, drawing, photography and sculpture are abundant and convincingly present in the art fair that takes place for the fourth time in the prestigious Grand Casino Knokke and that stands out, among other things, for an international character that may even be called intercontinental.

The offer is once again both diverse and elevated in quality. Also notable among the forty or so international galleries is the presence of galleries from Germany and Italy and also the fact that both modern and contemporary art in the various disciplines already mentioned appear at a high level.
 
The still young Devea gallery from Antwerp welcomes visitors at the entrance with female artists such as Charlotte Molenkamp and Margot Homan who pair discretion with quality, combined with sensitive nude drawings by Cathalijn Wouters. Il Chiostro Arte Contemporanea shows an attractive diversity and the other Italian Galleria Immaginaria from Firenze presents artists who display, as it were, a common refinement such as Tommaso Cascella with his subtle abstraction of lines and colour planes, of signs in space and a voluptuous coloured palette alongside the poetic matter in the works of Fernando Cucci and the sculptures in an original construction of unusual intertwined forms by Lluis Cera.
 
The Dutch Galerie Van Nuland is once again present with paintings by Dominique Ampe: interiors that move with their tenuous and poetic use of colour and their poignant alienation alongside hands and feet meeting, a supple and elegant theme that is a nightmare for many also important artists and shines here as a matter of course. The Maastricht-based Eddy Heleven is once again present with a rich array of original jewelry. Figures in Rose Wylie's own stylization pop up at Mookji Art. At the southern French Sanary Art Galerie, we discover a rich pleiade of artists such as Robert Combas, George Braque, Bernard Buffet, César, Arman, Erro, Miro, Dufy, George Mathieu among others. Art 020 from Amsterdam shows original sculptures by Mo Cornelisse and the linear sophistication of Peter Peereboom.
 
We conclude this brief overview with a reference to LE Gallery from Keerbergen. 'LE' stands for Limited Editions, an overwhelming collection of 'limited editions' by among others Man Ray, Pierre Soulages, Andy Warhol, Bram van Velde, Joan Miro, Picasso, Julian Opie, J.R. Soto.
