Today (11 March), the Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, Magnus Brunner, will host a ceremony for the 21st EU Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism in Strasbourg, together with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron; the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola; and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset. Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen will also attend.

With this event - and every year since the Madrid attacks on 11 March 2004 - the EU commemorates and shows its solidarity with victims of terrorism. It also strongly underlines the EU's unity and resilience against terrorism and violent extremism. The ceremony will give space to the voices of victims and survivors, whose testimonies help us remember. They also remind us of the importance of our fight against terrorism and radicalisation.

The Commission is further stepping up its efforts to prevent and respond to all threats to the EU's internal security, with the new Internal Security Strategy which will be adopted in spring, as well as a new EU agenda to prevent and counter terrorism and violent extremism which will be presented later this year.

The 21st EU Remembrance Day ceremony will take place at the Pavillon Joséphine, in Strasbourg. It will also be transmitted online at +/- 9:00 CET and can be followed online.
