During an hour-long meeting with Greece’s Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in the Oval Office of the White House on 8 August, US President Barack Obama discussed the US-Greece relationship and confirmed the US' continuing support for Greece's efforts to restore its economy to prosperity.
The two leaders also discussed co-operation on a broad array of mutual interests and challenges, including defense, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, counterterrorism efforts, prospects for a settlement in Cyprus, and developments in the region, North Africa and Syria, the White House said in a prepared statement.
Before his afternoon meeting with the president, Samaras met with Secretary of State John Kerry. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told journalists at a press briefing that Kerry “recognized the difficult but essential reforms Greece is taking to restore market confidence and fuel economic growth.”
