EPHA 4th Annual Conference, 4-5 September 2013, Brussels
In an official event of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the
will celebrate, on 4 and 5 September 2013, 20 years of helping shape Europe’s public health in a conference entitled Brave New World: Inclusive Growth and Well-Being or Vested Interests and Lost Generations? EPHA is using this milestone as an opportunity to look at how we can foster an EU that is coherent in its decisions, in terms of fostering the health and well-being of people living in Europe.
Some of the speakers include: Tonio Borg, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy (DG SANCO); Paola Testori Coggi, Director-General for DG SANCO; Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis, Lithuanian Minister of Health; Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe; Yves Leterme, Deputy Secretary General of the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); and Robert Madelin, Director-General for DG Communications Networks, Content and Technology.

EPHA will bring together national and EU policy makers; international, European and national agencies; public health networks, non-governmental organisations; and academics from across the EU to discuss issues affecting the European public health arena such as:
- Putting people, public health and well-being at the heart of EU policy-making.
- The impact of austerity in public health systems, and proposals to address this impact.
- The importance of increasing the efficiency and sustainability of healthcare systems through enhanced innovation and research.
- The economic weight of the health sector as an engine for wealth and job creation, investment and growth.
- The role of good governance to improve national health systems.
- The need to break the cycle of inequalities through committed leadership and inclusive growth.
