Parliament approves European Maritime and Fisheries Fund
At the plenary session on 23 October 2013, the European Parliament approved the new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for the period 2014-2020.
One of the main targets of the EMFF is the protection and restoration of marine biodiversity and ecosystems in the framework of sustainable fishing activities. For that, the EMFF allows the financing of projects for the collection, by fishermen, of waste from the sea such as the removal of lost fishing gears and marine litter.
A WFO workshop will be held in Brussels on the 5th of December 2013 in order to sit together the main actors in the fight against marine litter, to create alliances and to establish new projects in view of the collection of the marine litter for recycling/reusing purposes. More information about the mentioned workshop will be published shortly.
