ReAct Madrid: How to exit from the economic crisis
The crisis and how to exit from it will be the subject of ReAct Madrid, an interactive conference that the European Parliament is organizing in Spain on Thursday 20 February from 20-22h30 CET. Follow the debates on how to reverse the damage caused by the recession and ensure future economic growth and employment live here. You can also join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #ReACTMadrid.
Over the past few years, Europe has suffered from recession, bank failures and increasing unemployment, which have significantly affected people's lives. The EU is helping Spain and other countries to restart economic growth. The conference in Madrid aims to identify ways for the economy to get back to business.
Pablo Zalba Bidegain, a Spanish member of the EPP group and vice-chair of the economic committee, will open the conference. Speakers and topics include:
-
José García Montalvo, professor of economy at Pompeu Fabra University (banking union);
-
Reyes Calderón, professor of economy at Navarra University (seeking for a sustainable economic model), and;
-
Javier Díaz-Giménez, IESE Business School (the long road towards fiscal union)
Meanwhile Vicente Vallés, a TV news editor and presenter at Antena 3, will act as the moderator.
ReAct Madrid is the final event in a series of five interactive conferences held ahead of the European elections in May on subjects vital to the EU. Each one has taken place in a different European city bringing together opinion leaders and ordinary people and inviting them to share their knowledge, ideas and experience on the issues. Previous events were dedicated to jobs and employment (15 October in Paris), the EU in the world (14 November in Warsaw), finances (5 December in Frankfurt) and quality of life (23 January in Rome).
