NATO announces new secretary general
The North Atlantic Council has appointed Jens Stoltenberg as secretary general of NATO and chairman of the North Atlantic Council, in succession to Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Stoltenberg will assume his functions as Secretary General as in October 2014, when Fogh Rasmussen’s term expires after five years and two months at the helm of the Alliance. A two-time Norwegian prime minister, Stoltenberg became a recognizable face on the international scene with his dignified response to the twin terror attacks that killed 77 people in Norway in July 2011.
