Russia has lost a strong and courageous politician, a convinced democrat
European Liberals and Democrats are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of death of Boris Nemtsov, a prominent opposition politician in Russia and leader of ALDE Party member party RPR - PARNAS, who was shot dead in Moscow.
Reacting to the news ALDE Party President Sir Graham Watson said: “Tonight Russia has lost a strong and courageous politician, a convinced democrat. I have had the pleasure of being with him on a number of occasions and campaign with him on issues of common concern.”
“Boris Nemtsov’s murder shows how bad things in Russia now are. The safety of Russian Democrats everywhere is under threat. Russia deserves better. I condemn his brutal murder.”
“The thoughts and prayers tonight of all liberals and democrats across Europe are with his friends, his family and the Russian people who share his vision for their country.”
