Ukraine: Timeline of events
One year after the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement was ratified, MEPs debate the current situation in the country with Věra Jourová, the commissioner responsible for justice . This afternoon's (14 October) plenary debate is expected to touch on the outcome of the 2 October summit featuring the leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine, as well as the upcoming local elections in Ukraine.
Marking the one-year anniversary on 16 September of the ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, EP President Martin Schulz and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Groysman committed to standing "shoulder to shoulder" in implementing reforms in Ukraine. In a joint statement they said: "The association agreement represents a guarantee of realising Ukraine's European choice and a genuine chance of significantly improving the livelihoods of Ukrainians."
During this afternoon's plenary debate with Jourová, MEPs will discuss the latest developments in Ukraine and the local elections on 25 October, which a delegation of seven MEPs will observe.
