Valletta summit: 11-12 November
EU and African leaders will meet in Valletta, Malta on 11-12 November to discuss the ongoing migration crisis and its underlying causes. The meeting will be followed by an informal meeting of EU heads of state and government.
The Parliament's rapporteur for the permanent relocation mechanism, ECR MEP Timothy Kirkhope, has consistently argued that the EU needs to better implement existing asylum and migration rules, including processing and fingerprinting upon arrival and a better focus on returns and resettlement directly from conflict regions.
ECR Chairman Syed Kamall (pictured) recently said that the EU needs to stop adopting plans and road maps and actually begin delivering some action by sending out a strong message that not everyone can come to Europe, and instead focus on stabilizing the refugee and migrant crisis.
