LGBT-Organizations-and-Non-Gay-IssuesILGA-Europe,the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, is very disappointed and dismayed that on 13 January 2016 the Slovak government abandoned its plan to adopt a National Action Plan on LGBTI Equality stating it should be a matter for the next government.

LGBTI activists in Slovakia and ILGA-Europe are particularly concerned since the Slovak government went in great lengths in preparation for such step and in 2015 invited representatives of the Council of Europe and other European countries to discuss best practices with a view to introduce such Plan in the country.

Advocacy Director of ILGA-Europe Katrin Hugendubel said: "Slovakia has very poor track record on LGBTI equality and currently is on 22nd place among 27 EU countries on our Rainbow Europe map. National Action Plan on LGBTI Equality would be a serious commitment and a meaningful step on a side of the Slovak government to remedy this situation. We are seriously concerned with such U-turn and call on the Slovak government to deliver on its promise without delay or passing responsibility to the next government."
