#OnlineDating: How to ensure it works for you
In our busy world, online dating has become a popular and convenient way to find a life partner. It’s possible not only to find a mate nearby but search for, say, Russian brides online – this kind of dating gets international. But there are certain rules you need to know if you want to make your online communication successful. Here are the most important of them.
- Create an appealing profile.
Pay close attention to your profile photo. Of course, looks are not everything, and we all want to be chosen because of our personality. But the truth is your profile needs to draw attention before someone could get to know you better. In your photograph you should look directly at the camera and smile – it is perceived as the sign of openness. Use good quality pictures where you’re alone, rather than in the company of other people. If possible, include photos of your hobbies or other activities such as playing guitar, doing sports, traveling to an exotic place – they often serve as the first conversation topics.
Next, write a perfect profile description. Make it simple and sincere. You don’t want to sound like you’re applying for a job. Always check the spelling – poor grammar will create a bad first impression. And finally, ask a friend to proof-read your profile, or read it aloud yourself. If it sounds optimistic and enthusiastic, then you’re ready to go.
- Specify your requirements.
Always make clear your expectations from a potential partner. Don’t write something like “I’m looking for a good-natured and kind person who loves traveling and good food”. It’s too ambiguous, and anyone can relate to that. If you want to attract the right people, narrow your requirements. For example, include the information about the preferable age and the country or city of residence. If you want to date someone who has specific interests or hobbies, let people know about that, too.
- What should be the first message like?
It is totally understandable that at first you will send a lot of messages to various people because sending just one message and waiting for the answer is not effective. Nevertheless, try to compose different messages rather than copy and paste the same words. Here’s a tip: read the person’s profile, find the key points and act accordingly. Show your sincere interest, and that you’ve spent some time thinking about them. Then, leave your personal problems aside. Make your conversation light and carefree. And finally, just because it’s an online dating doesn’t mean that you can forget about being polite. Be respectful and choose your words carefully not to hurt anyone’s feelings.
- The secrets of effective communication.
There are tons of books on how to improve your communication skills in relationships. You can find there a lot of useful techniques and tips. For instance, talking only about yourself is as bad as constantly asking questions, turning your conversation into an interview. Remember, when someone asks you a question and you reply the next step is to ask something back. Or else it would look like you’re not interested in the further communication. Be honest and try not to exaggerate telling about yourself. You won’t find your true love pretending to be someone else.
- Getting on the first date.
Online dating services are a great tool to find your soul mate. But there comes a time when you have to meet each other in person. First of all, choose a place to go out – not too noisy so you could talk, and not too isolate for the sake of safety. Second, now it’s not the right time to tell about your failures in personal life. You can mention your previous relationships briefly and only with a positive tone. Keep an optimistic atmosphere if you want to make a good impression.
And lastly, don’t let yourself fall in love until you meet in person. Remember that no matter how successful your online dating is, you never know if you will like each other in real life.
