Vice President Schinas and Commissioners Schmit, Kyriakides and Dalli participate in Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council
Today (9 December), the first day of the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council meeting (EPSCO) will take place in Brussels, with a focus on health and social policy.
On Monday morning, Commission Vice President for Promoting our European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas and Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakides will join ministers for a public debate focusing on mental health, healthy ageing and the relation of wellbeing and the digital society.
The Council will then hold a second public debate on improving access to medicines. Commissioner Kyriakides will also take part in a working lunch and exchange views on the role of the EU and member states in the area of global health. Vice President Schinas and Commissioner Kyriakides will participate in the press conference, scheduled for +/- 17h CET, which you can follow online.
On Tuesday 10 December, ministers will focus on employment, social rights and gender equality. Jobs and Social Rights Comissioner Nicolas Schmit and Equality Commissioner Helena Dalli will participate in the discussions. The Council is expected to adopt conclusions on inclusive labour markets for the most vulnerable; on a new EU strategic framework on health and safety at work; and on gender-equal economies in the EU.
Commissioner Schmit will take part in the ministerial working lunch on promoting social and employment policies in the European Semester. Ministers will then debate the future of gender equality and gender mainstreaming in the EU. Commissioner Schmit will participate in the press conference, scheduled for +/- 17h CET, which you can follow online.
