On Tuesday afternoon (17 December), MEPs asked the Commission about its plans to investigate and clamp down on fraudulent schemes that allow EU funds to be misused.

The cases of Hungary, Czechia and Slovakia were mentioned in a debate with the Commissioner for Budget and Administration, Johannes Hahn, triggered by recent media reports and leaked investigation material on high-level officials who have acquired large amounts of agricultural and cohesion funds, via land-grabbing and other forms of power abuse.

MEPs stress edthe damage that these cases cause to the credibility of EU policies and the negative impact on citizens’ daily lives.
