#CohesionPolicy - EU invests in greener, faster and safer transport in #Poland
The European Commission has approved an investment of almost €128 million from the Cohesion Fund to modernize over 42km Warka-Radom railway section in Warsaw's area in Poland, and to install the automatic protection train control system in the 92km rail section between Warsaw Okęcie and Radom.
Investing in railway transport will bring positive environmental benefits, and will shorten journey times and increase safety. Cohesion and Reforms Commissioner Elisa Ferreira said: “This EU investment is a win-win, for people and planet. It will benefit passengers in Poland, including those with reduced mobility, with faster, safer and more frequent and punctual rail services. The increased integration of the railways with other modes of transport will bring environmental benefits."
Located in the south of the Mazowieckie region, the line is part of the comprehensive Trans-European Transport (TEN-T) Network, hence it is a key investment to better connect Poland with the rest of the continent, and vice versa. Moreover, the project will ensure non-discriminatory access to Polish railways for operators from other countries.
