HEAL promotes health benefits at COP19
The Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) delegation in Warsaw at COP19 will promote the huge benefits for health of both strong action to mitigate climate and the phasing out of the use of coal in electricity generation in Europe.
One of HEAL’s key objectives is to bring this message to the COP19 negotiators with the help of expert health and medical professionals and representatives of patients’ organisations.
A key event is the Climate and Health Summit on Saturday 16 November. It is organised by the Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA), in which HEAL is a founding partner and local organiser. Climate and Health Summit, 16 November
The Summit will address the health impacts of climate change, assess achievements so far, and plan the future path for the health and medical community in policy development. The programme is available here.
Julia Huscher, HEAL’s Coal and Health Officer, will speak at the Summit about the findings of our recent report on coal and health, The Unpaid health bill, How coal is making us sick in a session on 'Air pollution, energy and health'.
Génon K Jensen, HEAL’s Executive Director, will contribute to the Summit’s plans for the future in a session called The Political Road to 2015 and beyond in conjunction with Diarmid Campbell-Lendrum, World Health Organization (WHO) and Louise Newport, UK Department of Health.
Lucy Mathieson, Communications and campaigns officer will be tweeting throughout the day and during COP19 at @HealthandEnv You can also 'Like' the European coal and health Facebook page.

WHO Europe’s COP19 event: The health benefits of enhanced action will take place at 15.30-17.30 in Room Brussels of the EU Pavilion in the official COP19 negotiations venue. Génon K Jensen, HEAL’s Executive Director will be on the panel discussion.
