The first of May is nearly upon us and that means that spring is well-and-truly in the air. As for the other ‘May’ that’s in the news, it appears that not very much is happening in Theresa’s Brexit world, but time will tell…writes European Alliance for Personlised Medicine (EAPM) Executive Director Denis Horgan.

Meanwhile, the merry month of May will definitely herald the European Parliament elections (with or without UK involvement) and with that at least partly in mind, HERE you will find a booklet of MEP and high-level stakeholder interviews that we’ve prepared not only for you, our members and stakeholders, but also for current and would-be MEPs, members of relevant European Commission DGs, plus journalists and anybody else who wants and/or needs to know more about the exciting developing world of personalised medicine.

The interviews, which all took place recently in the European Parliament bases in Strasbourg and Brussels, as well as elsewhere, cover a broad range of issues. They are (we’re very happy to say for the benefit of you, dear reader) not ridiculously long, and all are based on conversations our chosen and distinguished interviewees had with EAPM’s executive director Denis Horgan.

Presented together in one publication, we hope you will find them both entertaining and informative, especially if you have a little time on your hands as we move into the month of a holiday here and a holiday there.

Look out for contributions from deputies involved in healthcare in the hemicycle, such as Marian Harkin, Paul Rubig, Sirpa Pietikainen, Soledad Cabezon Ruiz, Sean Kelly, Lieve Wierinck, Cristian-Silviu Busoi, Andrey Kovatchev,Marisa Matias, Alojz Peterle, Lambert Van Nistelrooy and more.

The MEPs are joined in this EAPM 100-plus pager by stakeholders such as Louis Denis, (US TOO, Belgium), Stephen McMahon, of the Irish Patients’ AssociationKen Mastris(European Cancer Patient Coalition), EAPM’s co-chair Gordon McVie, and Jasmina Koeva, chair of the Bulgaria Alliance for Personalised & Precision Medicine.

Also to be found within the publication are the thoughts of Barbara Moss, of EuropaColon and Francesco De Lorenzo, of the European Cancer Patient Coalition.

Among the topics covered are how personalised health care will change the world, the unhealthy consequences of discriminationBig Data and enhancing treatment options and health care and the Digital Single Market.

We also ask whether personalised medicine is the route to a healthy world, discuss health literacy, cutting-edge tools that add value to healthcare, innovation, access and prevention - a patients Holy Trinity, and much more.

Hopefully, we’ve got it covered, and the interviewees are certainly representative of the broad range of stakeholders and stakeholder viewpoints that are key to making the dream of personalised medicine, and equitable access for all to the best treatments available, a reality.

Happy reading, and our thanks to all who took part. Here you will find the interview booklet.
