A joint mission of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), experts from DG SANTE, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) is currently under way in Italy.

The team of experts is focusing on the COVID-19 transmission in the affected areas in Italy, on clinical management, surveillance, infection control and risk communication. Today (25 February), Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, is travelling to Rome, where she will meet tomorrow with Roberto Speranza, Italian Minister of Health, Hans Kluge, Director of WHO Europe, and Andrea Ammon, Director of ECDC.

They will hold a joint press conference after the meeting, which you can follow live on EbS. Ahead of the meeting, Commissioner Kyriakides said: “I welcome the support of the joint mission of experts from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organisation which is currently in Italy to support COVID-19 control and prevention efforts. The Commission stands with Italy and all member states with solidarity and resolve in our efforts to contain the disease and protect the health of our citizens.”
