Can health heal Europe’s fractured social contract?
With politicized immigration, disinformation, and a disconnect between people and politics, a polarised world has emerged. The hybrid European Health Forum Gastein 2025, from 30 September – 3 October, will explore how health can be a tool to rebuild trust and solidarity.
Europe’s social contract, the shared understanding that binds individuals, communities, institutions, and governments, is under strain. Many feel that this contract is fractured or benefits others more than them. Healing it must start with health, a sector uniquely positioned to restore trust and solidarity. This autumn, the European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG) will gather stakeholders from the public and private sector, civil society, and science & academia to chart the way forward.
The Forum will address key topics, including: End-of-life care and assisted dying
Rebuilding trust through innovation and ethical AI
The future of hospitals
Climate change and health inequalitiesFair pricing and transparency in research & development funding
Mental health in conflict settings
Confirmed speakers include: Emer Cooke – Executive Director, European Medicines Agency, Sandra Gallina – Director-General for Health and Food Safety, European Commission

About the European Health Forum Gastein
The European Health Forum Gastein was founded in 1998 as a European health policy conference. It provides the platform for all stakeholders from the fields of public health and beyond. Over the past 28 years, the EHFG has established itself as an indispensable institution in the scope of European health policy. With its annual conference and other events and projects, it has made a decisive contribution to the development of guidelines and above all the cross-border exchange of experience, information, and co-operation. Leading European experts traditionally participate in the annual conference held in the Gastein Valley in the Austrian Alps in early autumn.
