#LondonAttacks: Commissioner Julian King hits back @realDonaldTrump
London Mayor Sadiq Khan in a statement earlier today (4 June) notified Londoners that they would see an increase in the police presence today and for the next few days, he said that this should give "no reason to be alarmed". Reassuring people that the police were there to "make sure we’re as safe as we possibly can be”.
Khan added that though Saturday night's attacks were horrifying, London remained one of the safest global cities in the world, if not the safest global city in the world.
Donald Trump responded to this statement in a tweet mocking the London mayor’s appeal for calm:
At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"

The British European Commissioner, Julian King, responsible for the Security of the European Union rebuffed Trump, taking a side-swipe in a reply to the offending tweet:
There's every reason to stand together in defence of our values - you don't do that by spreading alarm https://t.co/kMnCbouJrg
— Julian King (@JKingEU) June 4, 2017
King’s brief at the European Commission includes counter-terrorism. He has a long career as a diplomat, in roles that mean he is – unlike the American president – well briefed on security issues. He has worked on defence issues for many years, he was a part of the UK’s UN mission – covering UN Security Council work – and has also represented the UK in NATO. King’s experience as the Director General of the Northern Ireland Office gives him direct experience in countering terrorism, efforts that have reaped great rewards.
