EU-Taiwan relations: Taiwanese student wins international marimba competition in Brussels
Taipei National University of the Arts’ student Kao Han-yen won the first prize at the 2013 Universal Marimba Competition, held in Brussels from July 23 to July 27 and juried by internationally recognized Taiwanese marimba virtuoso Chin Cheng Lin.
It is the best performance to date by a Taiwanese at the prestigious event. Three out of 50 participating marimba artists from 21 countries were selected to compete in the final round. Kao not only claimed the first prize in the solo category but also gathered the most votes from the audience. As part of the first prize, Kao will receive an Adams Artist Ludwig marimba and free recording sessions at the Academic Hall in Sint Truiden, Belgium. The competition's organizers will also help Kao participate in international festivals and perform at the laureate recital at the 2015 Universal Marimba Festival.
