#12DaysOfChristmas: Canada and EU finally clinched deal

After many twists and turns, the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was finally signed. The EU decided to adopt the deal as a mixed agreement, meaning that it needed the assent of all member states in addition to the EU as a whole.
In the final weeks, the deal looked as if it might flounder, when the Wallonian regional government of Belgium gave it a resounding ‘Non’! However, after much last-minute negotiation, it was back on track and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a historic visit to Brussels.
The new deal will offer EU firms more and better business opportunities in Canada and support jobs in Europe. The agreement will protect the EU's ability to regulate and maintain standards in areas such as the environment, public health and workers' rights.
Earlier in the year we spoke with Canada’s ambassador to the EU, Daniel Costello.
Over the twelve days of Christmas, we are highlighting 12 videos from the past 12 months.
