Macron party neck and neck with leftists in parliamentary vote – Belgian paper
French President Emmanuel Macron's centrist Ensemble alliance (Together), is believed to have won around 25% of votes in the country's first round of parliamentary elections. This is slightly less than the left according to Belgian newspaper La Libre, which cited two exit polls.
According to the paper, Jean-Luc Melenchon's leftwing Nouvelle Union Populaire Ecologique et Socialiste won between 25.7% & 25.8% of votes.
Marine Le Pen's extreme-right Rassemblement National, (National Rally), was thought to have won 18.5% to 19.3% of the votes. The centre-right Les Republicans party received between 11.6% and 14.4%.
The paper didn't say who compiled the data, or give details about their methodology.
