Commission strengthens co-operation on legal migration with Pakistan
The Commission is launching a new EU-Pakistan Talent Partnership to step-up cooperation on migration by better matching the labour market needs and skills between the EU member states and Pakistan.
The Talent Partnership brings together Pakistan, interested member states and the Commission to identify common needs and joint actions. With an EU funding of €3 million, the new programme aims to create new opportunities for labour and educational mobility between the EU and Pakistan. The programme will provide transfer of knowledge, expertise and address skills needs in selected sectors in Pakistan and interested EU member states, including construction, agriculture, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), renewable energy manufacturing and hospitality.
Talent Partnerships are a key element of the EU’s comprehensive and strategic approach, working with partner countries to manage migration. The Commission has consistently engaged with international partners in a Team Europe approach to address the root causes of migration, fight migrant smuggling, and promote legal pathways. In June 2021, the Commission launched the Talent Partnerships, an initiative aimed at addressing skills shortages in the EU by matching the skills of workers from third countries with the needs of the EU labour market, while strategically involving partner countries in broader cooperation on migration management, including the prevention of irregular migration. In July this year, the Talent Partnership with Bangladesh was successfully launched. The Commission is currently developing Talent Partnerships with three other partner countries: Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
