Russia's sole aircraft carrier suffers another repair delay - Tass
Russia’s only aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov has experienced another delay in repairs and will not reenter service before 2024 at the earliest, Tass quoted a defence source as saying on Tuesday (7 June).
The ship was launched in 1985 and was due for a refit, which would have made it operational in 2023.
Tass was informed by a source that there were defects in the work and that the ship would be in dock longer than originally planned. Although originally scheduled to be in service by 2021, the ship was moved to 2023.
One military serviceman died and twelve others were hurt in December 2019. It suffered damage from repairs in the previous year, when the floating dock that held it sink and a crane crashed onto it deck.
In 2017, the British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon called it the "ship shame". The carrier was seen passing close to the English coast, emitting black smoke.
