Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a conference of heads of intelligence and security agencies of Commonwealth of Independent States member states via video link in Moscow (Russia), 29 September, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin denied on Friday (30 September) that he was trying to revive the Soviet Union. This came just minutes after announcing Moscow would annexe four Ukrainian provinces in response to "referendums", which were decried by Kyiv and Western countries as a sham.

Putin spoke to hundreds of Russian politicians from the Kremlin, stating that Russia would defend its territory using all means available. This could indicate an escalation in conflict with Ukraine.
