France, Spain leaders to hold summit on 19 January - Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Spain on 19 January, Macron announced in a tweet on Friday (9 December) after a summit of nine Mediterranean nations in Alicante.
After months of tensions over the MidCat pipeline project through the Pyrenees that Macron opposed, Macron announced the summit to show warmer relations.
The MidCat gas pipeline was replaced by the announcement Friday from the two countries, along with Portugal, of the construction of an underwater hydrogen pipeline linking Barcelona and Marseille.
Pedro, we will continue to work together. Macron stated that because our countries have so many things in common and our peoples share so many things, Macron will be meeting again in Spain on 19 January to continue to work together.
Multiple sources in Paris and Madrid claimed that the leaders of Franco-Spanish friendship are currently working to draft a new treaty.
